Portland Buys Two WIL Men
PORTLAND, Jan. 6—The Portland Pacific Coast League baseball club announced the release of Willard Ramsdell, veteran knuckleballer who once pitched for Brooklyn and Cincinnati in the National League.
Portland signed Ramsdell last season after his release by Los Angeles.
Bill Garbarino, Portland general manager, also announced he had purchased infielder Gene Tanselli and pitcher Joe Nicholas from Salem of the Western International League.
Tanselli, a former high school star here, hit .295 and led the WIL shortstops in fielding last year. Nicholas won 23 games and lost seven and had a 3.21 earned run average.
