Bob Sturgeon Sets Record in Fielding
EDMONTON, Dec. 29—Bob Sturgeon, playing manager of the Edmonton Eskimos of the Western International Baseball League, set a fielding record during the 1953 campaign.
A recent check of errors revealed that one had been charged erroneously to Sturgeon. The correction gives him a fielding average of .989, ahead of the .988 Hugh Luby of Salem Senators recorded in 1952.
In his 93 games as a second baseman, Sturgeon made 203 putouts, assisted 250 times and figured in 68 double plays.
